Forever is a heartbeat away . . .
Kerris Moreton knows how to make things work. Bounced from foster home to foster home as a kid, she adapted; when opportunity arose, she thrived. Now, about to open her own business and accept a marriage proposal, Kerris is ready to build the life she's always wanted. The only thing missing? A passionate connection with her would-be fiancé, Cam. Kerris wants to believe that sparks are overrated- until Walsh Bennett lights her up like the Fourth of July.
. . . but what about love?
As one of the East Coast's most eligible bachelors, Walsh enjoys financial independence, fulfilling work with his family's nonprofit, and plenty of female attention. But lately he's been distracted by the one woman he can't have. Lovely to look at and even sweeter to know, Kerris is the soul mate Walsh never thought he would find. The problem is, his best friend found her first . . .

From Chapter 10</ o:p>
âYou are the team.â Martin held his sonâs eyes captive for an extra moment before turning to survey the city skyline. âCan you handle it?â
âOf course I can handle it.â Walsh made sure he didnât sound defensive or, worse, eager. âIâve just never taken the lead on an acquisition before.â
âNeither had I until I did it the first time.â Martin challenged Walsh with his best alpha male look over his shoulder. âItâs like sex. Grab your dick and figure it out.â
âIâll be fine.â Walsh stood, not giving his father the chance to dismiss him. âIâll have Claire send me any pertinent information we already have.â
âOf course, youâll need to spend more time here, and less time in North Carolina.â His father picked up that damn hourglass again, his face in its usual hard lines, but his eyes alert and careful on Walsh.
âOf course.â Ah, the end game. Always control and manipulation. âThe summer will be over soon anyway.â
âYou canât wait until the summerâs over to pursue this.â Out of his fatherâs face, Walshâs own eyes stared back at him with iron in the irises. âI need you on this now.â
âI said Iâve got it.â Walsh stiffened his back and calcified his tone. Martin Bennett only understood aggression; he only respected the kind of mental brawn he employed himself.
âYouâll need an assistant.â
âIâll ask Claire for recommendations.â
âIâll ask Claire for recommendations.â
âIâve already selected someone.â Martin turned to face Walsh wearing a younger manâs wolfish grin.
âTrisha McAvery.â
âHmmpph.â Walsh grunted, refusing to blink, trying to decipher what his father was up to. âOkay, Trisha should be fine.â
âThatâs a mild response. Most healthy, red-blooded males would jump at the chance to work with a woman who looks like Trisha.â
âI hope that most healthy, red-blooded males would appreciate how highly unprofessional a relationship with an employee would be.â Walshâs voice was a stone wall he dared his father to scale.
âWho said anything about a relationship?â Martin laughed like a rogue.
âNot interested.â Walsh strode to the door, eager to get out of his fatherâs presence. His soul needed a shower.
âYou and Sofie practicing a little premarital monogamy?â
Walsh turned back toward his father, his hand on the door.
âDad, Iâm not marrying Sofie.â
âOf course you are.â Martin cut his hand through the air, a dismissal. âEveryone

knows that.â
âI donât know it.â
âI donât know it.â
âSofie believes it.â
âSofie can believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.â Walsh sifted grit into his words. âIâm still not marrying her.â
âYou canât marry just anyone. One day Bennett will be yours, and you need the right kind of woman on your arm when you walk through certain doors.â
âMaybe Iâll wait for someone I love.â Walsh faced his father fully now, matching his aggressive stance.
âLove,â his father said, somewhere between a laugh and a hiss.
âYeah, Dad, some people marry for it. You wouldnât know about that, though, would you?â
Anger made reptilian slits of his fatherâs eyes.
âYou donât think I loved your mother?â
âI think you broke my motherâs heart.â Walsh snapped the words before firming

his mouth and smoothing the scowl from his face. âI think you cheated on her. Guess that was just part of grabbing your dick and figuring it out.â
âSon, Iââ </ span>
âI have a flight to catch.â Walsh turned on his heel to leave before his father could offer excuses for the inexcusable.

About Kennedy Ryan
There were several signs that Kennedy Ryan would be a writer, but making up stories with a mop as her long-haired heroine while the other kids played kick ball may have been the most telling. After graduating with her journalism degree from UNC-Chapel Hill (GO, HEELS!), she found various means of gainful employment having absolutely nothing to do with said degree, but knew she would circle back to writing, in some form or fashion. Some day. After years of working and writing for non-profit organizations, she finally returned to her first love - telling stories. Her debut novel, When You Are Mine, the first of The Bennett's trilogy, releases through Grand Central's Forever Yours imprint in June 2014.</ div>
Kennedy writes contemporary romance and women's fiction. She always gives her characters their happily ever after, but loves to make them work for it! It's a long road to love, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
In an alternative universe and under her government name Tina Dula, she is wife to the love of her life, mom to to her son, and a friend to those living with autism through her foundation Myles-A-Part.
She will donate 25% of her royalties toward her foundation and to her national charitable partner, Talking About Curing Autism (TACA).
